Composition and Conducting Division
The Composition and Conducting Division of the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, brings together distinguished composers, conductors, and specialists in solfège and ear training from China and around the world. Supported by a well-structured and comprehensive faculty team, the Division has established a systematic and professional training framework, with strong teaching and mentorship capabilities for cultivating high-level, world-class musicians.
Composition
The Division offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree programmes in Composition and Music Theory, dedicated to nurturing advanced professionals with solid academic foundations, creative insight, and innovative capacity in both compositional practice and theoretical research.
Supported by internationally renowned faculty and an excellent learning environment, the programmes integrate study, research, composition, and practice into a cohesive educational system. Students receive rigorous and structured training that strengthens their technical and theoretical foundations while enhancing their creative and scholarly abilities.
Conducting
The Division also offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree programmes in Conducting. These programmes aim to cultivate versatile musicians with international artistic competitiveness who can assume leadership roles across diverse contexts, including professional performance, community engagement, school arts education, and public service.
The curriculum emphasizes both rigorous theoretical preparation and practical skill development, supported by diversified and multidimensional conducting opportunities. The undergraduate programme focuses on general education and foundational training; the master’s programme emphasizes advanced professional studies and career development; and the doctoral programme is designed to prepare elite, high-level artistic leaders.
Teaching and Academic Engagement
The Division also delivers music theory courses for the entire School and oversees the training of the School Orchestra, providing essential academic and practical support for the School’s overall talent development.
Through regular lectures, masterclasses, and artistic events, the Division invites renowned composers, conductors, and performers from around the world for teaching and exchange. Students benefit from extensive stage experience, including rehearsals and performances with professional ensembles.
